ELBAITE

Grotta d'Oggi, San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - An old specimen from a dismissed collection. The specimen shows an open cavity with a bright pink/purple elbaite, perfectly terminated. The crystal is 0.6 cm large and 0.9 long, typical for the locality ! close to it there is an other bicolor crystalof 0.9 cm ! on the right a large feldsparlimits the cavity together with some quartz and smaller feldspar crystals. I do not know too much about this rock, but for sure it has been collected before 1967, since the owner stopped collecting a couple of years later. Nice old rock of 8x6.5x4.5 cm.

San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - The matrix of this specimen is mainly made by quartz crystals, albite and lepidolite books, and a well visible red/orange/pinkish elbaite crystal shows up ! The crystal is 1.7 cm long and display nicely on such a matrix. Though terminated, the crystal has a contact on the back, where the matrix was tigthly close to the crystal. All around the rock there are also other smaller elbaites, lepidolite and spessartine ! a nice combo from Isola Elba ! overall size is 7x7x5.5 cm

San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - Nice old thumbnail ! This specimen is from a dispersed collection and shows a nicely terminated bicolor elabite located close to a quartz crystal and on a bright white feldspar. The elbaite is 3 mm. Overall size is 2x2x1.5 cm.

From this famous locality this rock hosts terminated quartz crystals, little bit smoky and a terminated 0.6 cm long elbaite. There are other partial crystals all around. Overall size is 3x2x2 cm.

They are standing on a cluster of terminated colorless quartz crystals close to a feldspar of 1.8 cm in size ! nice reference specimen from Elba of 3.5x3.5x2.5 cm.

San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - This specimen hosts several schorlite crystals, well visible and nicely nested among quartz crystals. The schorlite are up to 0.5 cm in size and there is a quite large one ! Of more interest is the presence of several bright orange spessartine crystals, located among albites and quartz crystals. The largest quartz crystal is 1.7 cm ! overall size is 4.5x3x1.4 cm.

ELBAITE and Mn-COLUMBITE

San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - Terminated bicolor elbaite shows in an open cavity close to lepidolite books and feldspar crystals ! The elbaite is 0.8 cm and shows a nice green and colorless top. What makes this rock more appealing is the fact that there are several millimetric crystals of the uncommon Mn-columbite on the feldspars and inside some quartz crystals ! overall size of this nice rock is 5x4.5x4.5 cm.

Fonte del Prete, San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - This is a nice specimen from an hystorical locality, nowadyas no more available for research. There is a nice 0.4 cm elbaite, yello in color, perfectly terminated, that emerges from an open cavity. There is also an other elbaite in an other cavity. Overall size of this rock is 5.5x4x3 cm.

FOITITE

Masso Foresi, San Piero, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - Masso Foresi area is probably one of the most known of Isola Elba. It is the locality where the "4 evangelists" were found in the middle of 1800 ! These 4 blocks, all covered by elbaites and feldspars are now on show at the Mineralogical Museum in Firenze. This specimen hosts a great cluster of acicular foitite of 0.6 cm in size. Not common in such locality. Overall size is 6.5x5x3.5 cm.

Pastori dike, Sant Ilario, Isola Elba, Livorno, Italy - This rock shows an open cavity with feldspar crystals up to 1-1.5 cm and a lot of albite clusters ! There is also a nice elbaite crystal of 1.1 cm with a great cluster of acicular foitite crystals on the top ! such kind of occurrence has been typical only in this pocket. Overall size is 9.5x5x4 cm.
